WLA officials pay final visit to Buenos Aires before the start of WLS 2018
On October 11, in Buenos Aires, the President of ALEA and the Buenos Aires Province Lottery, Mr. Matías Lanusse, presided over the meeting of the ALEA Board of Directors, which included the special participation of officials from the World Lottery Association (WLA) and CIBELAE, and the presence of representatives from 17 jurisdictions.
Mr. Lanusse welcomed and thanked WLA President Jean-Luc Moner-Banet, WLA General Secretary, Lynne Roiter for their attendance, and Alfredo Monaco, out-going ALEA President, for the work done on behalf of the WLS 2018.
ALEA Executive Director, Mario Trucco, noted that regarding the last inspection visit by WLA officials, prior to celebrating this important world event, the objective of the meeting was to open a dialogue between all the jurisdictions present and Luis Gama, President of CIBELAE, who was the guest of honor at the meeting. Trucco also noted the importance of the WLS 2018 for the region, which brings together representatives of CIBELAE and ALEA.
WLA President Jean-Luc Moner-Banet said: "We are very happy to meet the members of ALEA for the second time. We were at the last ALEA board meeting one year ago. A few months ago, we were also here on a site inspection and now there are only six weeks left until the summit. WLS 2018 is approaching rapidly."
He continued: "I want to thank ALEA and Alfredo Monaco. We believe the summit will be a success. As you know, the WLA is a global organization. It holds its biennial event on a different continent each time, and this year we are honored to hold WLS 2018 in South America."
Greater Participation from Latin America
Mr. Moner-Banet continued by pointing out that they expect approximately 800 delegates from five different continents to attend WLS 2018. "We all share the values and ideals of the WLA. We are very pleased to welcome those who will come from Asia, Africa, and America. At WLS 2018, they will have the chance to enjoy a comprehensive business program that reflects both current and future issues of importance. Concurrently, at the trade show, our most important suppliers will display the technology of the future of the industry."
Additionally, Luis Gama, President of CIBELAE and the National Lottery and Betting Association of Uruguay, congratulated Mr. Lanusse for his position as chair of ALEA. He also emphasized that "it is good news that they are working together. I always say that if ALEA grows, the region is strengthened. We think the commitment they have made is very important and, without a doubt, Buenos Aires, the city that never sleeps, will welcome them with open arms. It will be an unforgettable event for all the regions that comprise the association. "
WLA General Secretary, Lynne Roiter noted that despite not being members of the WLA, participants from some Latin America organizations will have access to the expertise of international lottery professionals at a reduced price. "In the coming weeks, it would be wonderful to welcome the increased participation of Argentina and the member countries of CIBELAE to this unique event that provides an incomparable opportunity to meet people from other parts of the world, as was the case in Asia at the last World Lottery Summit. Therefore, we want to increase the participation of this continent. It would be wonderful if everyone could attend." The WLA and CIBELAE officials were bid farewell with a round of applause.
